Asus System Board / Motherboad: Its role and importance

System board or motherboard is the PCB that connects all the system components together. In today's computers, motherboard is a crucial part of the system and it holds many important components required for the functioning of the system.

A lot of components are soldered in to the motherboard during manufacturing. These components include video cards, bios, controllers and many others. A motherboard like a backplane provides electrical connection for the system devices to communicate with each other.

The motherboard also contains expansion slots or pci slots which can be used to enhance and increase the functionality of the system. The motherboard in computers manufactured by apple are called logic boards. Some computer systems are single boarded with no external connections. Such systems include kiosks, industrial control interface etc. They do not have any slots or do not support slots for expansion. These single board computers cannot be customized once manufactured.
