Specially coated printer drums are used in laser printers. Such drums are responsible for and a key element in rendering quality images when printing. The printer drum holds an electrostatic charge and receives images from / via the laser. It's ( the drum's ) main job is for pushing out the toner particles and transferring images in to the paper to produce the final image that prints out on the paper.
As a central component that determines the quality of the printers output, the printer's drum should be handled with proper care because once dented or even scratched the printer drum could than negatively affect the printers printing quality. Prints may then have unwanted dots, lines or even cause the image to be deleted.
Printer drums have a certain life span. The drum usually can print up to 20,000 to 50,000 pages approximately depending on the drums rating. Some factors such as exposure to light can shorten the life span of a drum. If a printer drum is over used it may also have difficulty producing quality prints at its best resolution.
