Every printer needs an ink cartridge. And these cartridges differ for different types of printers. Most ink cartridges have one or more partitions of ink stored in them. Some of these cartridges also contain an electronic chip for communication with the printer. There are mainly two types of printer ink. They are thermal and peizo electric. All the printers manufactured by companies like HP, Canon and Lexmark except Epson use the thermal ink. The thermal ink cartridges contain ink reservoirs with a metal and a resistor with a nozzle. According to the signal sent, the resistor heats up the metal and the ink surrounding it vaporizes and enters nozzle from where it is printed on to the paper. All Epson printers use only peizo electric printer ink cartridges. They have a peizo crystal which responds physically with the signal sent and controls the amount of ink delivered on to the paper.
