Computer adapter is a device which converts incompatible signal or a connector to a compatible or usable form. We use adapters everyday, knowingly or unknowingly. For instance, you charge your mobile devices using a charger which is basically a power adapter. If you directly connect your device to the electric plug, you will end up frying it. The adapter used here is a power adapter. There are several other kinds of adapters like USB adapters, network adapters, video or audio adapters, connectors and many others. USB adapters are those which you use to connect your mobile to your PC. Network adapters or Ethernet adapters are simply routers and switches. Video adapters or multimedia adapters include TV Tuner cards and Video cards which process graphic data. Audio adapters are sound cards and connectors are those which connect two different devices. Despite not containing any electronic circuitry, connectors are sometimes referred to as adapters because of their behavior.
