The LCD Inverter

An LCD (liquid-crystal display) inverter is a component in laptop computers that supplies the power to provide a backlight to the monitor, enabling the user to view what's on the screen. The main purpose of the inverter is basically to give power to the backlight. The way it works is simple, it takes power from the laptop itself by a small inverter lead that runs from the motherboard of the laptop, sometimes it is a direct lead on it’s own, other times this lead can be connected into the inverter through the LCD cable (the lead that runs from the motherboard to the back of the screen itself), giving the screen its visual display. LCD Inverters are also used in other devices that have LCD screens, including standard- and high-definition television sets and desktop computer monitors.

Even though a screen inverter performs a seemingly simple task in laptop computers, it can also be one of the most common to fail. This component is commonly the culprit when the monitor goes out and the most common problems related to lack of display and more specifically, dark or the darkness on the screen itself that can be moderately simple to replace. When an LCD inverter is going bad and needs to be replaced, the light to the monitor can either go out altogether, go out after a brief period of usage, or flicker on and off; the much dimmer image can sometimes still be seen on the screen. You can replace it without taking it to a professional, to access it for replacement or repair, unscrew the panel around the screen and carefully remove it but larger problems could be caused if it's not done correctly.

When it comes to purchasing an inverter most companies will require the part number which is usually printed on a bar code on the outside of the inverter but sometimes you may need to look carefully to find it. The LCD Inverter is generally located inside the cover assembly behind the front screen panel near the LCD itself. If your lucky then you may get away with just stating what your laptop make and model is we try our hardest to locate the inverter with just these details, however sometimes you will need to provide the part number.
