Small Outline DIMM aka SODIMM

A small outline dual inline memory module or shortly known as SODIMM is one kind of computer memory used for notebooks and laptops. This kind of memory is designed to meet the primary storage requirements where space is limited or restricted. The SODIMM can be identified whether they are DDR or DDR2 from their distinctive designs. If the notch is located at a far distance from the centre, then it is a DDR memory module. However, notch located near the centre is known as the DDR2 memory module. Generally, these two memory modules cannot be interchanged due to the variations of their designs.

The usual dimension of a SODIMM is, 3.18 cm in width, 6.76 cm in height, and 0.38 cm in depth. However, being a small version than a DIMM, it performs with the same capacity and even better sometimes. IBM, Ncr, Edge Memory, Compaq are some of the reliable manufacturers and suppliers of this product.
