Voltage regulators are electronic devices whose sole task is to maintain a constant voltage level in the circuit. These are used extensively in computer power units. Voltage regulators can be simple or complex based on their purpose of use.
In electronic systems and computers, voltage regulators are used to stabilize the dc voltage that is fed in to the system. Electronic and electromechanical voltage regulators are widely used. In computers and electronic circuitry, electronic voltage regulators are mostly used.
Voltage regulators also serve as dc voltage stabilizers as they stabilize the dc voltage. Apart from their use in computer systems, they are also used in power circuits and power generation projects. Voltage regulators play an important role in maintaining a constant level of required voltage. Some of the voltage regulators also contain amplifier circuitry for better operation at unfavorable load.
